The “Valley of flowers” is a picturesque National Park located on the western himalayan ranges in the Indian State of Uttarakhand, roughly 300 kms from Rishikesh and 500 kms from New Delhi. The national park is a UNESCO world network of biosphere reserve.

The Valley is very unique with abundance of nature with lush meadows, endemic alpine flowers and plethora of fauna. Most of the flora and fauna found here are very unique, rare and endangered.

The Park is officially opened on 1st June every year and closes on 4th October. However the best time to visit to see maximum variety of flowers is during months of July and August.

The “Valley of flowers” is located on the himalayan ranges at a height of about 3500 mtrs above sea level.The Valley is nestled in various snowy mountain peaks such as Gauri Parvat (6590 m) and Rataban (6126 m) in the east, Kunt Khal (4430 m) in the west, Saptsring(5038 m) in the south and Nilgiri Parvat (6479 m) in the north.The park is vast expanded around an area of 87.5 square kilometers.The park is around 8 kms long and 2 kms wide. The valley is liked by nature enthusiasts, photographers, biologists and people interesetd in trekking.

The park is divided into three alpine region based on the altitude. The park’s habitat includes river bed, forests, meadows, glacial moraines, slopes, plateau, deserts and caves makes it very interesting for the tourists. Around 500 different species of flowering plants are recorded in the valley.

The access to the park is from a small settlement of Govindghat, which is the last point where motorable roads are present. The base camp of the valley of flowers is located at Ghangeria, which is 14 kms away from the Govindghat. The distance between the Govindghat and Ghangeria shall be covered by trekking or pony ride.  The park can be viewed only by trekking as other forms of transportation is not allowed.

  1. New Delhi to Haridwar by train or bus (Duration: 5 to 6 Hours)
  2. Haridwar to Govindghat by cab (Duration: 10 to 12 Hours) – Distance 300 Kms. Motorable road stops at Govindghat
By Trekking:
  1. Govindghat to Ghangaria (Base Camp) can be reached by the following four options. [Distance:  14 Kms]-Trekking / Pony Ride / Porters(carry goods,children,elderly) / Helicopter
  2.  Valley of Flowers can be explored only by tekking.
